The correct Answer is:
C

Cancer is caused by cells dividing repeatedly out of control . They cease to respond to the normal signals around them and from unspecialised masses of cells called tumours . Lung cancer usually starts in the epithelium of the bronchioles, so - called bronchial carecinoma . It then usually spreads throughout the lungs . It is caused almost exclusively by smoking . Tobacco smoke contains chemicals responsible for lung cancer . The most important of these are polycyclic hydrocarbons which are converted in the body to carcinogens.
Besides , carbon monoxide combines with haemoglobin and reduces oxygen transport by about 15% in smokers and nicotine increase blood pressure , heart rate and constriction of blood vessels.

An organic compoud [A] which has characteristic odour on treatment with NaOH forms two compounds [B] and [C]. Compounds [B] has the molecule formula C_(7)H_(8)O . Lemieux reagent consist of an aqueous solution of sodium periodate (NaIO_(4)) and a trace of KMnO_(4) It is used for locating the position of double bond in an alkene. During the reaction, the alkene is first oxidised to cis-diol which upon cleavage with sodium peroxide gives aldehydes and ketones (similar to ozonolysis). Hot solution of acidic or alkaline KMnO_(4) can also be used for locating double bond by observing the products which are ketones or carboxylic acids. Position of triple bond can be identified by similar process. An aromatic hydrocarbon (Y) on treatment with KMnO_(4) with H^(+)//Delta square gives benzoic acid as one of the products. The hydrocarbon (Y) is :
