Assertion (A): Alkali metals are strong ...

Assertion (A): Alkali metals are strong reducing agents.
Reason (R ): They have only one electron to be lost form their valence shells.

A

Assertion is true but the Reason is false

B

Assertion is false, Reason is true

C

Both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Reason.

D

Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion.

The correct Answer is:
C

Alkali metals are strong reducing agent because it has a tendency to get oxidised by removing one electron easily. The main reason for this , they have `ns^1` electronic configuration and by removing `ns^1` electron it can attain noble gas configuration which is a stable configuration.
