Distinction between pairs of compounds
Phenol `(C_(6)H_(5)OH)` and Cyclohexanol `(C_(6)H_(11)OH)`
(i) `Br_(2)`-water test.
(ii) `FeCl_(3)` test.

Explanation

Following tests help to distinguish these :
(i) Phenol decolorises bromine water and gives white ppt. of 2, 4, 6- tribromophenol. Cyclohexanol does not give this test.
Phenol gives violet colour with `FeCl_(3)` solution but cyclohexanol does not.
