Chloroform `(CHCl_(3))` and Carbon tetrachloride `(C Cl_(4))`

Following tests helps to distinguish these :
Carbylamine test. When `CHCl_(3)` is heated with alcoholic solution of aniline and KOH, Carbylamine (offensive smell) is formed. `C Cl_(4)` does not give this test.
