Iodoform test. `CH_(3)CH_(2)OH` contains the grouping `-CH(OH)CH_(3)`. So, when warmed with `I_(2)//NaOH` or NaOI, yellow ppt. of iodoform `(CHI_(3))` are formed. Benzyl alcohol does not contain the grouping - `CHOHCH_(3)`, so it does not form iodoform with NaOI.
