How are `K_(a)` values related to acid strength of an acid?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`K_(a)=([RCObarO"]"[H_(3)overset(+)O])/([RCOOH])=K_(a)`
Therefore, `K_(a)` is directly proportional to the concentration of `H_(3)overset(+)O` or `H^(+)` ions. Hence, the strength of an acid can be measured in terms of `K_(a)`. Higher the value of Ka greater will be the tendency of the acid to ionize and thus stronger will be the acid.
