Explain the process of separation of water and alcohol from their mixture

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Water and alcohol are miscible liquids and form a homogenous mixture. Water and alcohol differ widely in their boiling points. Therefore, they can be separated by the process of distillation. Alcohol has lower boiling point, and hence, vaporizes and gets collected in the receiver flask. Water is left behind in the distillation flask as it has a higher boiling point
