Well water is considered to be safer for consump- tion than river water. Give reason

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Well water is obtained by digging the soil up to the underground water table. This water is collected by the percolation of rain water through the layers of soil and rocks. As the water passes through the layers of soil (gravel and sand), it gets filtered naturally. In this process, suspended impurities and germs are removed. On the other hand, the river water during its course carries large amount of suspended impurities and microorganisms along with it. Therefore, well water is pure and relatively safer for consumption than river water.
