The relative density of pure gold is 19....

The relative density of pure gold is 19.3. When an ornament made of gold is immersed completely in water, the volume of the water displaced is 5 ml. If the mass of the ornament in air is 100 g, determine whether the ornament is made of pure gold.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

density = m/v
density= mass/(Volume ofliquid displaced)
If the ornament is made of pure gold, the density of the ornament must be equal to the density of gold.

If relative density of gold is 19.3, then the density of gold is ________times greater than the density of water

A jeweller claims that he sells ornaments made of pure gold that has the relative density of 19.3. He sells a necklace weighing 25.250 g f to a person. The clever customer weighs the necklace when immersed in pure water and finds that it weighs 23.075 g f in water. Is the ornament made of pure gold?

Two solid pieces, one of gold and the other of silver when immersed completely in water have equal weights. When weighted in air:

Ten identical metalic balls of density 5 g cm^(-3) when dropped inito water, the volume of the water diplaced is found to be 500 cm^(3) . Determine the mass of each metallic ball.

The specific gravity (or relative density) of gold is 19. Find the mass of a gold body that displaces 25cm^(3) of water when immersed in it.
