A small elecrtrically charged sphere is suspended vertically from a thread. An oppositely charged rod is brought close to the sphere such that the sphere is the sphere is in equlibrium displaced from the vertical by an angle of 30^(@). A metal sphere is suspended from a nylon thread. Initially, the metal sphere is uncharged. When a positively charged glass rod is brought close to the metal sphere, the sphere is drawn towards the rod. But if the sphere touches the rod, it suddenly flies away from the rod. Explain, why the sphere is first attracted then repelled?

A small ball is suspended from a fixed point 'O' by means of a light and inextensible string of length 'l'. The ball is first taken aside such that string becomes horizontal and then released from rest. At the borrom it collides with a fixed obstacle. The co-efficient of restitution is 'e'. Find the maximum angular deflection of the string after n^(th) collision.

A small positively charged ball of mass m is suspended by an insulating thread of length L. This ball remains in equilibrium with string horizontal when another small charged ball is placed exactly at a distance L below the point of suspension of the first ball. The second ball is slowly moved away from the first ball to a far away point. (The second ball is moved horizontally so that the first ball does not accelerate). As a result the first ball lowers down to the original position of the second ball and the string become vertical. Find the work done by the external agent in removing the second ball.

Assertion: A small metal ball is suspended in a uniform magnetic field with the help of an isulated thread. When a high energy X rays beam falls on the ball. Then the ball will be defected in the direction of electric field. Reason: The ball will oscillate in the field.

Two identical small equally charged conducting balls are suspended from long threads secured at one point. The charges and masses of the balls are such that they are in equilibirum whaen th distance between them is a(the length of thread Lgtgta ). Then one of the balls is discharged. what will be the distance b(bltltL) between the balls when equilibrium is restored?

A small ball is suspended over an infinite horizontal conducting plane by means of an insulating elastic thread of stifiness k . As soon as the ball was charged it decended by x cm and its separation from the plane become equal to l . Find the charge of the ball.

A pith ball carrying a charge of 3 xx 10^(-10) C is suspended by an insulated thread of length 50 cm .When a uniform electric filed is applied in a horizontal direction , the ball is found to deflect by 2 cm from the vertical. If the mass of the ball is 0.5 gm , the intensity of the electric field is :

Write the following steps in sequence to shows that the unlike charges attract each other. (A) Take an ebonite rod and a glass and tie two silk threads so that they can be suspended. (B) The glass rod and ebonite rod when brought near attract each other showing that charges attract each other. Rub ebonite rod with woollen cloth and glass rod with silk cloth and suspend tem in air by holding silk threads.
