An echo of sound produced by a person, is heard from a distant tower after an interval of 1.5 s. If the speed of sound in air is `330 ms^(-1)`, then the distance of the tower from the person is _______ m.

A

495

B

247.5

C

330

D

500

The correct Answer is:
B

The time after which echo is heard, (t) = 1.5 s. Speed of sound in air, (v) = 330 m `s^(-1)` . Distance of tower, (d) = ?
As the sound wave travels twice, i.e., from person to tower and from tower to again the person.
` therefore V=("distance ")/("time") = (2d )/(t) implies d = (V xx t)/( 2) = (330 xx 1.5 )/(2) `
`=247.5 m`
