The gravitational attraction of the eart...

The gravitational attraction of the earth on any object is proportional to its mass. Then, why do heavy objects not fall faster than light objects?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Gravitational attraction of the earth on any body is proportional to its mass. But the acceleration caused in a body is due to the gravitational pull of the earth on the body (`because` .g.is independent of mass). Hence, all the bodies fall towards the earth with equal rapidity irrespective of their masses
