Why is the temperature high in thermosphere?

Molecules present in thermosphere absorb the Sun.s radiation directly. Since very few molecules are there in thermosphere, these molecules easily get ionized by absorbing intense solar radiation. During this process, the kinetic energy of the particles increases which in turn increases their temperature.
