Explanation

The gases such as `NO_2` and `SO_2 ` are released in the atmosphere through factory chimneys. They are also generated during the burning of fossil fuels, eruption of volcanoes, etc. These gases dissolve in rain water forming `HNO_3` and `H_2SO_4` , respectively and cause acid rain.
