Do you know why distilled water is a poor conductor of electricity while tap water, which contains many dissolved minerals and salts, is a good conductor of electricity?

The water that we get from different sources such as - taps, hand pumps, wells and ponds is not pure. It may contain several salts and minerals dissolved in it. Hence, tap water is considered a good conductor of electricity. The distilled water is free of salts and called poor conductor of electricity.
