Which of the following ionic combinations may lead to the formation of explosive substance?
(Given: `E_(Ag^+//Ag)^@=0.80 V),` `E_(CIO_4^-//CIO_3^-)^@=1.23` V
`E_(N_2//N_3^-)^@=-3.09` V, `E_(Na^+//Na)^@=-2.71` V

A

Sodium ion and azide ion

B

Silver ion and perchlorate ion

C

Silver ion and azide ion

D

All of these

The correct Answer is:
C

As we know that if SRP of oxidant -- SRP of reductant is more than 1.7, then their combination may lead to explosion, therefore in the cases,
`E_(N_2//N_3)^@=-(3.09)` V, and `E_(Ag^+//Ag)^@=0.80` V
E=0.80-(-3.09) = +3.89 V As the value of E is greater than 1.7, thus this will lead to explosion.
