Why is Rhizobium categorised as a symbiotic bacterium?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Rhizobium lives in the root nodules of leguminous plants and fixes the atmospheric nitrogen by converting them into nitrogenous compounds. These can be utilised by the plants as nutrients. Since, bacteria make the nitrogen available to plants in utilisable form, therefore, it is known as a biofertiliser.
