When a current strength of 965 ampere can deposit 0.9 g of Al metal in 20 sec. What is the efficiency of electrolysis?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mass of Al = 26.98g
equivalent mass of Al ` = ( 26.98)/( 3) = 8.99 =9g`
In 20 sec, expected amount of Al
`m = ( 9 xx 965)/( 96500) xx 20 = 1.8 g`
Actual amount of Al deposited = 0.9 g
Efficiency `= ( 0.9)/(1.8 ) xx 100 = 50%`
