An insurance company insured 2000 scooter and 3000 motor cycles. Probability of an accident involving a scooter is 0.01 and that of a motor cycle is 0.02. An insured vehicle met with an accident. Find the probability that the accident vehicle was a motor cycle.

Two sets of candidates are competing for the position on the board of directors of a company. The probabilities that the first and second sets will win are 0.6 and 0.4 respectively. If the first set wins, the probability of introducing a new product is 0.8 and the corresponding probability if the second set wins is 0.3. What is the probability that the new product will be introduced ?

An anti-aircraft gun can take a maximum of four shots at an enemy plane moving away from it. The probabilities of hitting the plane at the first, second, third and fourth shot are 0.4, 0.3, 0.2 and 0.1 respectively. What is the probability that the gun hits the plane ?

An insurance company selected 2000 drivers at random (i.e., without any preference of one driver over another) in a particular city to find a relationship between age and accidents. The data obtained is given in the following table: Find the probabilities of the following events for a driver chosen at random from the city: (i) The driver being in the age group 18-29 years and having exactly 3 accidents in one year. (ii) The driver being in the age group of 30-50 years and having one or more accidents in a year. (iii) Having no accidents in the year.

On a Saturday night, 20% of all drivers in U.S.A. are under the influence fo alcohol. The probability that a driver under the influence of alcohol will have an accident is 0.001. The probability that a sober driver will have an accident is 0.0001. If a car on a Saturday night smashed into a tree, the probability tht athe driver was under the influence of alcohol is

A person goes to office either by car, scooter, bus or train probability of which being 1/7, 3/7, 2/7 and 1/7 respectively. Probability that he reaches office late, if he takes car, scooter, bus or train is 2/9, 1/9, 4/9 and 1/9 respectively. Given that he reached office in time, then what is the probability that he travelled by a car?

A laboratory blood test is 99% effective in detecting a certain disease when it is in fact, present. However, the test also yields a false positive result for 0.5% of the healthy person tested (i.e. if a healthy person is tested, then, with probability 0.005, the test will imply he has the disease). If 0.1 percent of the population actually has the disease, what is the probability that a person has the disease given that his test result is positive ?
