The probability that a dealer will sell ...

The probability that a dealer will sell at least `20TV` sets during a day is `0.45` and the probability that he will sell less than `24TV` sets is `0.74`. The probability that he will sell `20,21,22` or `23` TV sets during the day is

A

`0.19`

B

`0.29`

C

`0.333`

D

`0.81`

The correct Answer is:
A

`(a)` Let event `A to` dealer will sell at least `20TV` sets
and events `B to` dealer will sell less than `24TV` sets.
Now the event that dealer sells `20,21,22` or `23 TV` sets is `AnnB`
`:. P(AnnB)=P(A)+P(B)-P(AuuB)=0.45+0.74=0.19`

Of the students in a college, it is known that 60% reside in hostel and 40% are day scholars (not residing in hostel). Previous year results report that 30% of all students who reside in hostel attain A grade and 20% of day scholars attain A grade in their annual examination. A cottage industry manufactures pedestal lamps and wooden shades, each requiring the use of a grinding/ cutting machine and a sprayer. It takes 2 hours on grinding/cutting machine and 3 hours on the sprayer to manufacture a pedestal lamp. It takes 1 hour onthe grinding /cutting machine and 2 hours on the sprayer to manufacture a shade. On any day, the sprayer is available for at the most 20 hours and the grinding /cutting machine for at the most 12 hours. The profit from the sale of a lamp is Rs. 5 and that from a shade is Rs. 3. Assuming that the manufacturer can sell all the lamps and shades that he produces, how should he schedule his daily production in order to maximise his profit?
