Explain why when a person stands on a cushion , the depression is much more than when he lies down on it .

While standing, only the two feet are in contact with the cushion while in the lying position the whole body is in contact. So in the lying position the contact surface area being greater, there is lesser pressure than in the standing position. The depression in the lying position is less than that in the standing position.
