What is the role of plants in controlling air pollution and soil erosion?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The burning of fossil fuels has caused air pollution by increasing the amount of `CO_(2)` in the atmosphere. In photosynthesis, plants use `CO_(2)` and give out `O_(2)`. Plants therefore help in maintaing the balance of these two gases in the atmosphere and thus, help in controlling air pollution. Roots of the plants hold the soil firmly and thus, protect it from being carried away by floods and strong winds.
