Write a short note on ozone depletion.

Explanation

A gas, known as ozone forms a protective layer around the atmosphere of the earth. It protects the earth from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. But chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) used in refrigerators, air conditioners and aerosol sprays cause damage to this layer. CFCs cause thinning of this layer. This is called depletion of ozone layer. Ozone layer depletion causes an increase in the amount of ultraviolet rays from the sun reaching the earth. Ultraviolet rays cause damage to our eyes and skin and is known to cause skin cancer.
