Find the percentage of carbon dioxide by...

Find the percentage of carbon dioxide by mass in calcuim crbonate [Give the atomic masses, Ca = 40, C = 12 and O = 16]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molecular formula `: C a CO_(3)`
Molecular mass `=1 xx 40 + 1 xx 12 + 3 xx 16`
`=40 + 12 + 48 = 100`
That is, 100 parts of calcium carbonate contains 44 parts of carbon dioxide.
Therefore % by mass of carbon dioxide = 44
