There are 4 students for physics, 6 students for chemistry and 7 students of mathematics gold medal. In how many ways one of these gold medals be awarded?

The Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics student's gold medal can be awarded in 4,6 and 7 ways, respectively. Hence, by the fundamental principal of addition, number of ways of awarding one of the three gold medals.
`=4+6+7=17` ways.
