Function of Placenta. 1. Endocrine Function. It secretes hormones like estrogen, progesterone, hCS (human chorionic somato monotropin), relaxin, etc. 2. Respiration. It helps in diffusion of `O_2` to the foetal blood and `CO_2` back in the reverse direction. 3. Nutrition. All the nutritive elements like glucose, aminoacids, lipids, etc. pass into foetus through placenta. 4. Barrier. It serves as an efficient barrier and allows only necessary materials to pass. 5. Storage. It stores glycogen and fat.
