Why is sickle celled anaemia called molecular disease ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is called a molecular disease because of formation of abnormal haemoglobin Hb-s due to defective gene Hos. Hb-S differs from normal HB-A in only one amino acid (6th amino acid in `beta` chain) where glutamic acid is replaced by valine due to substitution (Transversion).
