Describe the situation in which independent assortment of genes result in 50% recombination.

Text Solution

It is due to phenomerien of linkage. The recombination frequency arising from linked gènes ranges from 0 to 50%, depending on their closeness. We never observe recombination frequency greater than 50%. A recombination frequency of less than 50% shows that the genes are linked (lying on the same chromosome). A recombination frequency of 50% generally means that the genes are unlinked and are present on separate chromosomes. Unlinked Genes. They are genes which occur on different chromosomes and are thus free to undergo independent assortment. Dihybrid ratio is 9:3:3:1 while the dihybrid test cross ratio is 1:1:1:1. In both the crosses, 50% are parental types while 50% are recombinants.
