Discuss Natural selection with reference to industrial melanism.

Explanation

In urban area there were more white winged moths on tree than mclanised or dark winged ones in the collection done before industrialization i.e., 1850s. However after industrialization collectiosn in 1920s indicated more dark winged moths in the areas. The explanation given was that predators will spot a moth against a contrasting background. Post industrialization, soot covered trees and melanic moths survived the predators by camouflage while in pre-industrial periods white moth survived on trce covered with lichens. In rural arcas, where industrialization did not occur melanic moths did not survive and hence their count was low. This showed, in a mixed population those who can better adapt, survive and increase in population size.
