Explain why does a cut in the skin become red and swollen?

Skin becomes red and swollen due to inflammation. This is body.s natural defense against injuries. So body responds by sending WBCs to the site of cut, which destroys bacteria. This produces symptoms of inflammation including redness, swelling and pain. It is a healthy response to an injury.
