Enlist the various harmful effects which alcohol/drug abvuse may have on adolescents.

Explanation

(i) The drugs and alcohol abuse lead to reckless behaviour, vandalism and violence. Its excessive doses may lead to coma and death due to respiratory failure, heart failure or carebral hemorrhage.
(ii) A drug or alcohol addict becomes the cause of mental and financial distress to his entire family or those closer to him.
(iii) A drug addict can easily acquire serious infections like AIDS and hepatitis B.
(iv) The chronic use ot drugs and alcohol damages nervous system and liver (cirrhosis).
(v) Some sportspersons take drugs to enhance their performance but these have various side effects. The side effects of use of anabolic steroids in females are masculinization, increased aggressiveness, mood swings, depression, abnormal menstrual cycles, excesive hair growth on the face and body, enlargement of clitoris and deepening of voice. Similarly, in males, it includes depression, reduction of size of the testicles, decreased sperm production, liver dysfunction etc.
