Name the causal agent of disease ‘Ringworm’ write its symptoms and prophylaxis.

Fungi group Dermatophytes causes ringworm or Tinea. Dermatophytes include three genera : Trichophyton. It infects skin, hair and nails. Microsporum. It attacks the hair and skin but usually not the nails. Epidermophyton. It infects the skin and nails but not the hair. Thus main symptors of the disease are appearance of dry, scaly lesions on various parts of the body such as skin,-nails and scalp. These lesions are accompained by intense itching.
In Tinea cruris the groin and the perineum are involved. In Tinea barbae, the bearded areas of the face and neck are involved. Tinea pedis or athletes.s foot is the ring worm of foot and Tinea capitis is the ringworm of the scalp.
Heat and moisture help these fungi to grow in the skin folds such as those in the groin or between the toes. The infection of ringworms is usually acquired from soil or by using towels, clothes or comb of infected persons.
Prophylaxis. (i) Isolation of patients.
(ii) Articles used by patient must be sterilised.
(iii) Proper antibiotic treatment should be done like Griseofulvin, Miconazole.
