Causes. Our population have crossed 1.26 billion in March 2011. The probable reasons for population explosion are :-
(i) increased medical facilities,
(ii) rapid decline in death rate.
(a) maternal mortality rate (MMR),
(b) infant mortality rate (IMR), and
(iii) increase in the number of people in reproductive age are the main reasons for increase population growth in India, a rate at which our population could double in 33 years.
