Water pollution can be prevented in the following ways:
(a) The sewage and factory wastes have to be cleaned to some extent before they are flown into water ways. Sewage should be passed through a series of screens (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary treatments) to remove large objects and to get useful products.
(b) Various kinds of pollutants wastes can be effectively recycled and this constitutes one of the best means of prevention and control of pollution. Gobar gas plant which gives the farmers not only the gas for cooking purpose, but also enriched cow dung manures. Similarly, other means of cycling is found in the conversion of coconut wastes and agricultural wastes in paper and board, and jute wastes into hard board.
(c) Ships and oil tankers must take care not to dump their oil into the oceans. Recently, .bregoli. resembling sawdust from paper industry waste is used to absorb oil.
(d) Rapid biodegradable substitutes for pesticides should be employed.
(e) Industrial wastes must be filtered before discharging into rivers or lakes.
(f) To minimize the thermal pollution, solar generators should be installed.
