Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is commonly called as jhum cultivation in the north-eastern states of India and it has resulted to deforestation. In this, the farmers cut down the trees of the forest and burn the plant remains. The ash is used as a fertiliser and the land is then used for farming or cattle grazing. After cultivation, the area is left for several years to allow its recovery. In earlier days, it was successful practice where enough time gap was given to recover the land from the effect of cultivation. However, due to increasing population and repeated cultivation, this practice has been failed, resulting in deforestation.
