How does degradation of natural resources occur due to improper resource utilisation practices?

Explanation

(i) Soil Erosion and Desertification. Soil erosion is resulted due to over-grazing and depletion of the vegetation cover in semi-arid region. The loss of soil productivity due to erosion, unplanned irrigation, over-grazing, deforestation and other defective agricultural practices lead to the formation of deserts. The desertification is the major problem that is caused due to increased urbanisation.
(ii) Waterlogging and Soil Salinity. The salinity is caused due to inadequate drainage especially in flood ravaged and well irrigated areas. The soluble salts get accumulated on the surface of soil as white crusts which adversely affect the soil productivity.
