What are gels ? Give an example of elastic and non-elastic gel.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Gels are colloidal solution of liquids in a solids. In a gel the dispersed phase is a liquid while the dispersion medium is a solid.
Elastic Gells: These gels possess the property of elasticity e.g., agar-agar, fruit pectin, gelatin etc.
Non-elastic gells : These gels do not possess the property of elasticity, they are hard and rigid e.g., silica gel.
