Micelles. There are certain colloids which behave as normal strong electrolytes at low concentrations, but exhibit colloidal properties concentration due to the formation of aggregated particles. These aggregated particles are known as micelles and such substances are known as associated colloids. A common micellar system is system of soap and water. Sodium stearate `(C_(17) H_(35) COO Na)` when dissolved in water gives `Na^+ and C_(17) H_(35) COO^-` ions .
`underset("(Soap)")underset("Sodium Stearate")(C_(17)H_(35) COO Na) to underset("Stearate ion")(C_(17) H_(35) COO^-) + Na^+`
At higher concentration the stearate ions associates to form ionic micelles of colloidal size.
