What do you understand by protection of colloids ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We know lyophobic collids are easily coagulated by adding a small amount of suitable electrolyte. However when some lyophilic colloid, like getalin is added to a lyophobic colloid (say gold sol), it protects the lyophobic colloid from coagulation on the addition of electrolyte. It is called protection of colloids.
