Significance `:` The microspore and megaspore germinate to form male gametophyte and female gametophyte. The female fametophyte remains attached to sporophytic body. The development of seed or young embryo occur on this gametophyte . So the development of young embryo is a precursor to seed habit. For example `:` Selaginella, Isoetes, Salvining, Azolla and Marsilea.
