Explanation

In this kind of life cycle the diploid sporophytic phase is represented by a dominant, independent photosynthetic vascular plant body. It alternates with multicellular, sparophytic or autotrophic, independent haploid gametophyte. It is short lived. For example, all pteridophytes and few algal genera such as, Polysiphonia and Ectocarpus kelps follows this type of life cycle.
