Write features of class reptilia.

Explanation

The general characters of class reptilia are as follows:
(i) The body is divisible into head, neck, trunk and tail.
(ii) There are two pairs of jointed legs present. These are absent in snakes and few lizards.
(iii) The skin is rough, dry and horny. An exoskeleton of horny epidermal scales is always present.
(iv) Endoskeleton is bony. Skull has a single occipital condyle.
(v) Teeth occurs on both the jaws. Alimentary canal opens into cloaca.
(vi) Respiration occur by lungs.
(vii) The heart is incompletely four chambered having two auricles and partially divided ventricles.
(viii) There are 12 pairs of cranial nervęs.
(ix) Excretory organs are kidneys. Urinary bladder is present but absent in snakes.
(x). Sexes are separate. Fertilization is internal. Examples : Hemidactylus- the wall lizard, Chamaeleon- the chameleon, Varanus- the monitor. lizards, Calotes- the garden lizard, Draco-the flying lizard
