Yes, it is truly said that cork cambium form tissues that form the cork. The first division in the cork cambium is periclinal which forms two derivatives. Inner derivaties become secondary cortex while outer functions as cork cambium. It divides again. The outer of two celis, formed as a result of second division, matures into cork cell (or pheller) while inner remains meristematic. Generally the amount of cork cells produced is more than the cells of the secondary cortex. In Quercus suber(cork oak) the amount of cork cells produced is much higher than the amount of the Secondary cortex. Hence it is a valuable source of commercial cork.
