What is zwitter ion ? Give the zwitter ion structure of a-amino acid.

A zwitter ion is a dipolar ion fanned by neutralisation of acidic and basic centres present within the same molecule. In aqueous solutions, the carboxylic group can lose a proton and amino group can accept a proton. It gives rise to a dipolar ion, zwitter ion. It is neutral but contains both positive and negative charges:
