In DNA, four base pairs are present. Two strands have complementary base pairs. Adenine forms bond with thymine whereas cytosine with guani. Thus, the two strands are not identical but complementary to each other.
Adenine and thymine are linked together by two hydrogen bonds whereas cytosine and guanine are linked together by three hydrogen bonds.
