Distance: It is the length of the actual path covered by a body between initial and final positions Suppose a body moves from A to B through C as shown in figure. So distance covered = AC + CB. Distance is a scalar quantity. It always remains positive. SI unit of distance is metre and CGS unit is centimetre.
Displacement : The shortest distance between initial and findal position in a particular direction is known as displacement.

As in the displacement `= vec (AB)`
Displacement can be positive, negative or zero.
