A car travels at the rate of 30 km h ^(...

A car travels at the rate of `30 km h ^(-1)` in 5 minutes and then at `4 0 km h ^(-1)` for 10 minutes. Find the total distance travelled by a car.

We are given :
Speed of car for 5 minutes `= 30 km h ^(-1) = (1)/(2)` km/minute
Speed of car for 10 minutes `= 40 km h ^(-1) =(2)/(3)` km/minute
We are to calculate, total distance travelled in 5 minutes.
Using relation , s = vl
We have `s = s _(1) + s _(2) = v _(1) t _(1) + v _(2) t _(2) = ((1)/(2) xx 5) + (2)/(3) + (20)/(3) = (55)/(6) = 9.16 km.`
