What is reflection of light and laws of reflection?

Text Solution

Reflection of light : The phenomenon of change in the path of light without any change in medium is called reflection of light.

In the figure, `M_(1)M_(2)` is a plane mirror. AO is the incident ray, OB is the reflected ray and ON is the normal to the mirror at point O.
Let `angleAON=anglei` = angle of incidencel,
`angleBON=angler` = angle of reflection
Laws of reflection
First law : The incident ray (AO), the reflected ray (OB) and the normal ON to the mirror, all lie in the same plane.
Second law : The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection i.e., `anglei=angler`
