Name at least five invertebrates belonging to different groups which are of economic importance to man.

Explanation

1. Earthworm. Earthworms, which belong to annelida, play a significant role in argiculture. By their burrowing activity they plough soil, enabling the roots of the plants to grow deeper. During digestion they grind the coarse soil into a fine powder and make it available in the form of their castings which increase fertility of soil. 2. Honey bees. These insects provide us honey and bees wax for making candles and lipsticks, 3. Silk worm. Silk is obtained from the cocoons of silk moths. Of these mulberry silk is supposed to be the best and is produced by the caterpillar of the moth Bombyx mori which belongs to class insecta. 4. Bivalves. Indian pearl oysters produce pearls which are of great economic value. The pearly layer of unio is used for the manufacture of buttons, knife handles, brooches, toys etc. It belongs to the class Pelecypoda. 5. Flatworms. These are endoparasite in the intestine of man, sheep etc. and belong to phylum platyhelminthes.
