Electric field due to a point charge has...

Electric field due to a point charge has spherical symmetry. Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The electric field due to a point charge q at a distance r from it is given by
`E = 1/(4 pi in_0) q/(r^2)`
All such points, where electric field due to this point charge q is same, make the surface of sphere on joining them.
Therefore electric field due to the point charge is said to be spherical symmetric.
